The end of September 1996 saw La Martiniére hosting a boy's weekend when John, myself and friend Alan travelled down in a rented Luton van loaded with beds, matresses and various items of surplus furniture.
The decision to take beds and matresses (a mixture of old and new) from England was made after we found the prices for these items to be much higher in France. This was unusual, as we've found most things to be about the same price (or even, cheaper) in France.

Whilst the stay was a brief two days, we still had time (especially with Alan there) to get a few jobs done. Below you can see him removing battens from the beams in the lounge (which had been used to support the false ceiling) and varnishing the bedroom floor. He also did most of the work required to replace the loft door with a window.

Here are some more items we took over. A drawer unit crafted by John from the base of an old wardrobe and two settees that were surplus to requirements at the Morans.
