2002 Summary

Diary Years

There are only three items of significance to show for the whole of the year of 2002.

The first was to complete a task we started in October last year. That of replacing the shutters at the front of the house. This time, rather than build them from scratch, we bought a kit from the huge Castorama DIY store at Rennes. So it was simply a matter of cutting the timber pieces to size and assembling. Quite straightforward and it gave a very substantial pair of shutters.

Now that the work on the storeroom has been finished and we do not envisage doing anymore plasterboarding upstairs (hurray!), our thoughts turned towards finishing off the landing area by laying carpet.

This resulted in an interesting visit to the local decorating store with four adults trying to agree on the choice of carpet! However, we avoided coming to blows and eventually settled on a fairly neutral option which some liked more than others but none of us actually hated!

The method of laying recommended by the decorating store assistant was to use double-sided adhesive tape. So this made the process fairly simple apart from some of the rather awkward shapes we had to cut around and the fact that, due to the size of the landing area, the carpet was in two sections which meant we had to match it at the join.

Anyway, a longish morning's work saw the job done and, all agreed, the result looked splendid!

Finally for 2002, we did a little job that had been waiting since we did the kitchen in 1998 - boxing in the electrical meters and fuse box.
